The Department was instituted under the headship of late Prof. K. K. Unnikrishnan Nair in 1968. Now, the Department offers UG and PG level programmes. The postgraduate programme in M.Sc. Chemistry was introduced in 2002. The Department has been making continuous efforts to keep pace with developments in the field and has periodically introduced challenging and innovative courses.
Currently, the Department as a family comprises of 7 permanent teachers, 1 laboratory staff and 110 students. Each and every member is dedicated and aims at the overall wellbeing and development of the department and the college. Most of the teachers are actively involved in research. Now, Dr. Ansu Jacob acts as the head of the department.
Computer and internet facilities are open to the faculty members and students of the department. The department organizes seminars and classes frequently which offer the students an exposure to various topics related to chemistry and life. Endowment prizes, instituted by four teachers of our department are awarded to meritorious students of our Dept. at the PG and UG level.
The Department gratefully recalls and commemorates the services and contributions of all its retired / transferred teachers who in their various positions as head/ Faculty member promoted the development of the Department.
